INSPIRATIONAL Meadow recovered from trailing by two goals with a storming second half display at Townhead Park to maintain their 100 per cent start to their Premier league campaign and stay firmly in top spot.

Meadow gaffer Stevie Rankin was delighted with the comeback and said after the game “We sorted things out a bit at half-time and made a few changes and came back strongly again when we went two goals down to the deflection but once we grabbed our first goal I thought we would go on to win it. Gary McCann was great today as he was one a few players carrying a knock but he still produced the goods and sums up the spirit in the camp. It is the first time I have ever won here as a player or a manager so I am delighted with that. We have a great squad here and everyone wants to be in the team as showed with the substitutions we made and that is always a good thing to have at a club.” Cumnock began brightly and took the lead by taking Meadow by surprise when Chris McKnight whipped in a free-kick which centre-half Stephen Low headed into the far corner. The home side held the lead up to the break and almost added to the lead with Graeme Shepherd having to dive full-length to keep out a Stephen McGuire effort.

James Lundie had a solo run 13 minutes into the second half and his low drive took a wicked deflection that gave Shepherd no chance for the two goal lead.

Meadow responded with 25 minutes remaining when Marc Twaddle headed home a Ryan Deas corner. Inside five minutes the gutsy visitors were level when Deas thumped home from the edge of the penalty area.

After constant pressure the visitors gained the lead with nine minutes remaining when Gary McCann’s pace down the right created a chance for substitute Chris Hall, who had only entered the action four minutes earlier, to tap home from close range from the winger’s inch-perfect low cross.

Meadow then hung on in difficult conditions to gain the precious points.
