IRVINE Cricket Club has been sensationally demoted from the Western District First Division over claims they fabricated a player's resignation.

Sportscene understands that the demotion, which affects both Irvine and their second team, Marress, centres around an Ardrossan Cricket Club player who Irvine claim signed for them during the season.

Ardrossan, though, say this is not the case, and that the player in question - who has not been named - has always been a registered Ardrossan player and will continue to be so.
