ROUND two of the Ayr Burners Summer Series saw 11 riders take on the ‘Annbank and Stair Fayre’ on Thursday evening.

A 35km route was devised around the quiet back roads between Auchincruive and the two villages, with five timed segments thrown in for ‘the Burners’ to compete for.

Favourable conditions helped the bunch glide around the lanes between the ‘sectors’, with an easy social pace being maintained throughout the evening. Once the times had been collated the winner was announced as James Edwards by a mere one second from Scott Knox, with Pete Ferrier taking third spot on the evening. After two rounds in the series Scott Knox moves into top place, closely followed by Gary Currie and Harry McGarvie.

Sunny skies greeted the group who decided on an expedition along the West Highland Way on Saturday.

Departing from Bearsden, the trails through Mugdock Country Park led onto the picturesque area around Carbeth and Craigallian Loch, before a stop was taken at the Glengoyne distillery. Return was via Strathblane and Dumbrock Loch with a total of 22 glorious off-road miles clocked up on the Mountain Bikes.

Next Sunday sees the adventure-cross ride along the Lagafatter Way. Leaving from Barrhill Train Station at 9.30am, this 52km off-road ride takes in some stunning scenery, with a re-fuel stop planned in Ballantrae.
