FIRE services in North Ayrshire saw a fall in the amount of illegal fires on Bonfire Night this year.
Scottish Fire and Rescue revealed that overall there was a dip in the amount of secondary, bonfire-related incidents on Guy Fawkes Night (Tuesday, November 5) throughout the area compared with 2012.
The fire service had been urging locals in the area to attend organised bonfire displays instead of hosting their own fireworks celebrations at home.
Mark Gallagher, Station Commander at Kilwinning Fire Station, said: “Overall, Bonfire Night proved to be a busy night for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“In total there were 29 secondary bonfire-type incidents in North Ayrshire, which was a slight reduction on last year’s figure." See more in this week's Irvine Times, out now
