Top cyclists including Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and Lizzie Armstead are set to compete in North and East Ayrshire on Thursday, June 20.

For the first time ever the British National Road Race Championships (NRRC) and Time Trial Championships will be held simultaneously and Stewarton has been selected as the host venue.

The Time Trial Championships are part of a much larger event, which will see Glasgow host the British National Road Race Championships on Sunday. June 23.

The NRRC is the highlight of the national Elite Road Racing calendar attracting the elite of British cycling. The Time Trial will start and finish on Dalry Road in Stewarton, near to Stewarton Sports Centre, with the first competitors leaving the start line at 3.30pm and the final competitors crossing the finishing line at approximately 8.30pm.

Organisers are working to keep disruption to local residents and businesses to a minimum, however to ensure the safety of participants and spectators, road closures and parking restrictions will be in place on the day.

June 20 to accommodate competition vehicles and competitors.

Parking for the event will be extremely limited within Stewarton. People wishing to view the event within Stewarton should use public transport where possible.

A park and ride service will be available within the nearby town of Kilmarnock. The town's multi-storey car park will be available free of charge from 12pm on Thursday June 20 where visitors can park and then travel bus or by train to Stewarton. The car park will remain open until 11pm.

Kilmarnock Bus Station, with services to Stewarton every 15 minutes, is immediately adjacent to the multi-storey car park and Kilmarnock Train Station, with half hourly trains to Stewarton, is a five-minute walk away.

Spectator viewing areas Spectator viewing areas will be available in Stewarton at Standalane and Dalry Road.

Spectator viewing areas are also available from 5.30pm at Middleton Road, Irvine. Parking will be available from 5.30pm at nearby Annick and Stanecastle Primary Schools. More details are available from North Ayrshire Council's website.

Early school closures have been agreed with the three local schools - Lainshaw Primary, Nether Robertland Primary and Stewarton Academy. All pupils will finish the school day by 1.35pm on Thursday, June 20.

Refuse collection services.

Refuse collection services will be unaffected by the event. Please put bins out as normal on the day.
