CONCERNS have been raised over the lighting at Irvine's Bridgegate after one resident described it as a "mugger's paradise".
As a result of the ongoing multi-million pound redevelopment of the area by Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, temporary lighting has been installed to keep the area lit at night.
But, at the most recent meeting of Irvine Community Council last Thursday, members complained that the area is virtually pitch black at night now as the winter nights draw in and that it can be quite an intimidating place for people to be.
One resident said at the meeting: "A week ago I walked through the Bridgegate area at night and it was in complete darkness.
"All you could see was about four or five fluorescent tubes and that was all the lighting there was between the Delta Bar and where the stepped area is.
"It was very dark, like a mugger's paradise".
