THE head teacher of an Irvine primary school is leaving after five years service.

Towerlands Primary School head teacher Ellen Cumming is departing to take up a new post at Moorpark Primary School in Kilbirnie.

This means that Ellen is officially the last head teacher in the school’s history before it closes to become part of the new Elderbank Primary School.

Both Fencedyke and Broomlands primaries will also close to become part of the multi-million pound merger with pupils set to move into the new building, adjacent to the existing Broomlands Primary, in August.

Ellen leaves Towerlands with fond memories and insists that it feels as though she is leaving her “family”.

She said: “I’m looking forward to taking up my new post at Moorpark Primary School in Kilbirnie and the challenge it will bring.

“But I have to admit I feel as though I am leaving my family behind at Towerlands because I’ve had a wonderful five years there as head teacher.

“I’m proud of the fact that the school has been very much part of the community and that we’ve helped to build a great relationship with parents, pupils and staff.

“The school is well-known for it’s warmth, tolerance and reputation for excellence.

“I’m sure I’ll be emotional on my last day but I’m excited about my new challenge at Moorpark.”
