EVERY year one in every 100 children born in the UK has a Congential Heart Defect (CHD) and need a number of life saving operations to help them survive.

One of Abbey Primary's P4B pupils Jennifer Kinnear is a CHD warriro.

Jennifer was born with half a heart and has already had two open heart surgeries and a number of other procedures which have saved her life.

The Scottish Association for Children with Heart Defects (SACHD) provides support for Jennifer and her family by raising money to provide vital equipment for Yorkhill and families like Jennifer's.

If it was not for SACHD providing Jennifer's family with a Coaquchec machine, Jennifer would have weekly visits to Yorkhill for this simple blood test.

This allows Jennifer to participate in full-time schooling.

Jennifer's family hosted a Give a Heart Fundraiser at the Kilwinning school on Valentines Day to raise lots of money with a bake sale.

Irvine Times photographer Charlie Gilmour was on hand that day to take this fabulous shot of the fundraiser.
