A KILWINNING councillor has called on Prestwick Airport to dump Donald Trump.
Joe Cullinane has called on the airport to end its partnership with The Trump Organisation following the US Presidential candidate's controversial remarks about Muslims.
Councillor Cullinane, Labour's Cunninghame South candidate at next year's Holyrood elections, says it would be "wholly inappropriate" for the airport entirely owned by the Scottish Government to hold such a partnership.
The politician has written to the chairman of Prestwick Airport following the billionaire's comments on banning Muslims from entering the United States.
Speaking this week, Councillor Cullinane said: "Donald Trump’s comments about banning Muslim’s from the US are bordering on fascist. They are comments that we shouldn’t accept from anybody in society never mind a multi-billionaire who is standing to be the President of the United States of America.
“Already Robert Gordon University, under pressure from the public, have stripped him of the honorary degree they awarded him.
"We now need to make it clear to those running Prestwick Airport that it is not acceptable for an airport which is wholly owned by the Scottish Government to retain its partnership with him.
"I have written to the chair of the airport’s board but should they fail to act I will be asking the First Minister to step in and make the decision for them.”
