IRVINE'S Holyrood candidates will go head to head at a special hustings meeting tonight.

The debate for voters in the Cunninghame South constituency will take place at 7.30pm tonight (Tuesday, April 19) at Irvine Royal Academy.

All four of the candidates will be in attendance to debate and answer questions from the audience.

Ruth Maguire (SNP), Joe Cullinane (Labour), Billy McClure (Conservative) and Ruby Kirkwood (Liberal Democrats) are all vying for the seat left vacant after Margaret Burgess announced her retirement.

The meeting, organised by the Give Something Back group, will be chaired by Fullarton Parish Church minister and Irvine Times columnist Rev. Neil Urquhart.

He said: "Hustings are a well established way for voters to make their views known to candidates.

"I would encourage everyone who can to be at the hustings so that when it comes to voting, they can vote for the candidate most compatible with their views."
