A BOOK detailing the history of an Irvine primary school has been restored - thanks to the help of ex-MP Brian Donohoe.

Loudoun Montgomery Primary School’s history in Church Street has been brought back to life with the re-launch of the book.

The old school was based in the street between 1907 and 1978 before moving to Ayr Road.

And Mr Donohoe - whose father was a former head teacher at the school between 1959 and 1974 -  helped to reproduce the rare, original copy of the book.

He enlisted the help of printing firm Fastprint after first obtaining a rare copy from a Mr Ian Norquoy

One hundred copies of the book, costing £5, are now on sale in a bid to raise money for the school.

Speaking this week, Mr Donohoe, pictured right, said: “A man from England called Ian Norquoy brought the book up to show me.

“I know the family and I agreed to meet him and produce this book which I was extremely interested in.

“I took it to my good friend Alan Morrison from Fastprint if he could do something with it.

“He visited the school and low and behold the head teacher produced a pristine copy.

“I did the scanning and got it to the point where only a professional printer would notice any defects.

“We did 100 copies and I’ve had quite a number of people saying they’d be interested in getting a copy.

“We’re charging at a fiver to keep costs down and that way if I break even we can raise enough money for the school as possible.

“My father was actually the head teacher at Loudoun Montgomery and it’s a bit of Irvine’s history that could have easily been lost. The more people buy the book the more the traditions of the town will be maintained.”
