POLICE are appealing for information after a man was seriously assaulted in Irvine on Thursday, December 15.
At around 7.15pm, a 53-year-old man was injured during an altercation near to the row of shops on Caldon Road.
Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment for a serious facial injury. He has since been released.
Detective Constable Ainsley Sweeney from Saltcoats CID said: “At this point it is unclear how the victim came about his injuries and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
“It appears that he was injured with some sort of sharp implement during an altercation however it is important that any witnesses come forward to assist with the investigation.
“Anyone who has any information about what happened is asked to contact officers at Saltcoats CID via 101 or alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
