Greenwood Academy has become the first school in North Ayrshire to achieve an acclaimed honour.

The Irvine school is one of just a handful from across Scotland to successfully become part of the School Ambassador Programme, organised through the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).

The Ambassador for Schools programme aims to help schools raise awareness of the framework and its benefits.

It is aimed at helping people to access appropriate education and training, allowing them to fulfil their potential. It also allows people to understand the full range of Scottish qualifications available and how qualifications relate to each other.

At Greenwood Academy, staff and pupils who are interested in becoming SCQF ambassadors receive training to pass on their knowledge to other school pupils.

Head teacher Christine McGuire said: “We are delighted that our experience and good practice is being acknowledged at national level. “SCQF has had a significant impact on our school.

“It has encouraged teachers to be creative and innovative when considering the subjects which they are offering pupils, while pupils themselves are more aware of the wide range of pathways they can follow.

“We integrate SCQF into our conversations with parents and there is growing awareness of the choice for learners.

“The School Ambassador Programme will increase the engagement of staff, pupils and parents and promote even greater understanding of the opportunities SCQF provides.”
