Residents have been warned that drinking in public will not be tolerated during Marymass.
Sergeant Jason Peter, of Irvine Locality Policing Team, who has been on cycle patrol throughout the festivities, said: “The Marymass Festival is steeped in tradition and provides opportunities for the people of Irvine to come together with visitors and celebrate the area’s rich history.
“It is an offence to consume alcohol or to have an open container of alcohol in a public place - these restrictions remain in place throughout the festival.
“Officers will deal robustly with incidents of disorder or antisocial behaviour - make sure you remember Marymass for the right reasons, please drink responsibly and look after each other.
“We would encourage event visitors to use public transport, to dress for the weather and stick together with family and friends.”
