Uniformed Services students at Ayrshire College were given an incredible inside look at their dream careers.

Visits were organised as part of the students’ course to experience working life at the Army, Police Scotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

A guest speaker from the SSPCA also visited the College. First up at the start of November was a trip to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s training centre in Cambuslang.

The students were given a tour of the purpose-built technical rescue training zone, which has been designed to help firefighters from across Scotland hone their urban search and rescue skills.

The state-of-the-art facility replicates hazardous and complex emergency scenes, such as buildings collapsing and vehicle crashes.

Towards the end of November, the full-time Uniformed Services students were given a glimpse into life in the Army, with a visit to the TA Centre in Dreghorn.

The students were given an introduction to military vehicles and took part in a command task.

Pupils on the school-college Skills for Work Uniformed and Emergency Services course also interacted with the Army when they visited Ayrshire College’s Kilmarnock Campus on 30 November.

The Army brought in vehicles and equipment for the pupils to examine. On Monday 4 December, the series of organised trips for the College’s Uniformed Services group continued at the Police Scotland Mounted Unit in Stewarton.

Finally, on Friday 8 December, the students visited the Scottish Ambulance Service where they got an opportunity to speak to paramedics.
