IRVINE Burns Club celebrated a huge moment in its history with the appointment of its first female president.
Annie Small was made president of the club on Sunday, January 28, with the official handover in the Wellwood Burns Centre.
Earlier that morning members attended the official Kirkin’ ceremony for the new president in Irvine’s Old Parish Church.
Annie said: “I’m absolutely overwhelmed and feel very proud.”
"I’m absolutely amazed at the support I’m getting from all the directors.
"The club has always had lady members, it’s just not that many chose to join, we didn’t have to change the constitution or anything it was always possible."
Club secretary Bill Nolan said: “Her speech at our annual celebration on Friday night was outstanding - and I say that as someone who’s seen a lot of Burns Suppers.”
