A DAD who aggressively assaulted and threatened his children over a period of 16 years has been remanded in custody.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied five charges against him at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, but was found guilty by jury after trial.

Between November 25, 2002 and October 6, 2010 at addresses in Irvine and Ardrossan, the dad repeatedly shouted, swore, threatened and made derogatory comments to his three children.

He also threw household items.

The man also behaved in a threatening or abusive manner on various occasions between October 7, 2010 and March 5, 2017 at a property in Irvine and elsewhere.

The dad assaulted and threatened to stab one of his sons at a home in Ardrossan and elsewhere on various occasions between January 23, 2001 and May 24, 2009.

He stated he would stab him, punched and kicked him on the head and body, threw a can at him, which struck him on the head, awakened him and punched and kicked him on the head and body.

On one occasion, he stamped on his son and slapped and pushed him.

The man assaulted his daughter at various homes in Irvine on various occasions between January 23, 2001 and March 31, 2016.

He struck her on the body with a ladle and cane, threw cups at her, struck her on the head, threw her against walls and doors and punched her all to her injury.

On various occasions between May 25, 2009 and March 5, 2017 at a property in Irvine, the dad repeatedly threw his young son against a hut and onto the ground and struck him on the body with a stick or similar implement to his injury.

Sentence was deferred for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report and a Risk Assessment later in March.

Bail previously granted was revoked and the man was remanded in custody until that date.
