A young Irvine man has dodged jail after assaulting his own mother.

The nineteen-year-old, who we can’t name to protect the identity of the victim, was also later caught in possession of a knife.

The young man pleaded guilty to a charge of assault after seizing his mother by the neck and pinning her to the couch by the throat on December 6 last year.

He also lunged at the woman and repeatedly pushed her on the body.

On the same date outside the address he did without reasonable excuse or lawful authority have a bladed or sharply pointed weapon – namely a knife.

A not guilty plea to one other charge was accepted by the court.

The young man avoided jail time when he appeared for sentencing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, February 20.

He received a Community Payback Order with supervision for 12 month.
