KILWINNING Academy has been added to the roster of schools to see the return of Campus Cops.
The town’s secondary school will be one of six academies in North Ayrshire to benefit from the re-introduction of the school-based officers.
Recently, the Times revealed that cops would be returning full-time to Irvine Royal Academy, Greenwood Academy, ArdrossanAcademy, St Matthew’s Academy and Auchenharvie Academy with money from the Scottish Government’s Pupil Equity Fund being used to partly fund the move.
Now Kilwinning will be getting a full-time officer based within the school, with the police officers due to move in to their posts from the beginning of March.
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Interest has been shown in re-introducing campus officers at a number of our high schools as the head teachers valued their contribution to the overall delivery of support and education of their pupils.
"We are currently exploring the best way forward before a final decision is taken.”
