Parents have been asked to collect their children after a fire alarm at a primary school.

Dreghorn Primary suffered a small electrical fault today (Tuesday) which caused the fire alarm to activate.

All the pupils safe, however the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service advised that the school remain closed for the rest of the day.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesman said: "Dreghorn Primary has had a small electrical fire - everyone is safe.

"Parents, please collect your children asap as the Fire Brigade has recommended the school remains closed for now.

"Pupils not collected by 1pm will move to Greenwood Academy and can be collected there.

"Dreghorn Primary will open as normal tomorrow following today's closure."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were alerted at 11.20am on Tuesday, March 6 to reports of a small fire at Dreghorn Primary, Irvine.

“Operations Control mobilised a number of engines to the scene, where firefighters extinguished the fire.

“The school had already been evacuated prior to the arrival of firefighters.

“Crews left the scene at 1.08pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
