KILWINNING is set to get its first town noticeboard this week after a place for it to be erected was finally sorted out.

Over six months ago Kilwinning Community Council successfully obtained a grant for more than £1,000 to purchase and erect a town notice board.

After purchasing the board – which is around one-metre squared – the community council has been working to find a suitable location in the Main Street.

After an exhaustive search they have partnered with the Co-op to have the board attached to their outside wall beside the butchers. The board will be at the disposal of community groups and the businesses of the town alike with the community council being the custodian and operator of the board.

The hope is that it will become a go to place for all the information of the goings on in the town.

Secretary of Kilwinning Community Council, Nairn McDonald said: “This project has been our main focus for a few months now and is a bright and welcome addition of the community furniture of Kilwinning.

“We hope it will soon become the go to place to find out about events, groups and all other things Kilwinning and we hope it will be well used by the town.

“We will be shortly agreeing a criteria for use which will differ for community groups and businesses.

“We will be hosting a grand unveiling in the near future and we cant wait to add this brilliant piece to the town.”

Cunninghame South MSYP Aaran McDonald said he hopes it will be used by young people to showcase the amazing groups they run in the town and to make an intergenerational focus point in Kilwinning.

The community council hope to have the board in place within the next few weeks and will be discussing the use and its upkeep at their next meeting in April.

If anyone is interested on using the board they can get in touch with the secretary, Nairn McDonald via the Kilwinning Community Council Website, Facebook or Twitter.
