An Irvine man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to break in to a vehicle in the town.

The 27-year-old has been charged over the incident after police received reports of a man acting suspiciously in Paterson Avenue at around 6.45pm hours on Thursday, April 5.

Officers attended and following enquiries arrested the man for allegedly attempting to open a vehicle with intent to steal from within.

Sergeant Jason Peter, of the Irvine Locality Policing Team, said “We are committed to tackling issues of local concern and will act on all information provided to us regarding crime in the area.

“Thanks to the quick actions of a vigilant member of the public who contacted police, response officers were able to trace the man nearby and later arrest him in connection with the incident. He was held in police custody to appear at court.

“I would encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to contact police immediately.”
