TWO Irvine fitness instructors are set to take on their biggest challenge yet to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Lorraine Howie and Drew Wilson of Dual Fitness will try to lift one million kilos in 24 hours to fundraise for the charity.

The pair have decided to raise money after Lorraine’s dad and brother, who are both called John, were diagnosed with the disease.

She told the Times it’s a cause close to her heart.

She said: “My dad watched a documentary about prostate cancer and decided to go and get himself checked even though he had no symptoms at all.

“When he went they said his blood levels were not right and from there he was diagnosed with having an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

“We just couldn’t believe that he had shown no signs or symptoms whatsoever. It really is a silent killer. If he hadn’t just taken it upon himself to get checked after watching that tv show, he would not be here today.”

While Lorraine’s dad, who is 74, was fighting the disease the family were dealt a further blow when her brother was also diagnosed with it.

She added: “My brother is only 51 and now he is fighting it too. That’s why I wanted to raise money for the charity and also to raise awareness of the disease because it really can just creep up on you and because, quite often there are no warning signs, you might discover it too late.”

Lorraine and business parter Drew will join forces with some of their gym members to bench press, squat, and lift kettle bells to reach their target of 1million kilos on Friday, April 14.

The pair have already smashed their fundraising target of £1,000 and have raised double that amount already.

Drew added: “It would be great to raise as much as we can. If you can spare a few pounds or would like to donate something for our raffle please get in touch and we can arrange collection or drop off. It’s a very worthy cause that is close to our hearts.”
