Irvine library are holding a free meet the author event later in the week.

Ayrshire author Pat Young, who writes psychological thrillers, will be taking part in a Q&A at the town’s library at 6pm on Thursday, May 31.

Pat Young, originally from Auchinleck, began writing as a hobby about six years ago and has been an enthusiastic and active member of Ayr Writers’ Club, winning local, regional and national competitions.

Pat never expected to be a writer until she found a discarded book with a wad of cash tucked in the flyleaf. ‘What if something awful happened to the person who lost this book?’ she thought, and she was off.

Her first book, Till the Dust Settles, is a tense psychological thriller with an original and intriguing story line about a young woman who is given the opportunity to escape an abusive marriage and assume a new identity by her chance involvement in a terrorist act.

Till the Dust Settles oddly enough became a bestseller a week after I Know Where you Live was released.

After launching her second book, Pat said: “My publisher said that after I Know Where You Live was published, the first one would get a boost.

“It got such a boost that it sold 2,000 copies in one day and it went to number one with Amazon – it is just incredible – and I am able to officially call myself a bestseller now. A year ago I would never have thought I would be a bestseller, it is so exciting, especially as I had no intentions of becoming a writer.

“It all started when I found an envelope containing money and a letter, inside a book, and thought there must be a story in this and that is what got me started.”

Please come along a little earlier than 6pm to get yourself a good seat.
