Irvine could soon be home to North Ayrshire’s first gamer cafe in the coming months.

Friends Gary Copeland and Kieran Morrell plan to set up the venue in Irvine High Street – which would be kitted out with consoles as well as arcade machines.

The pair recently launched a Kickstarter page to gain support for the project – which has already had £2,514 pledged of its £2,500 goal and say they’re ‘chuffed’ with the response.

Gary Copeland said: “We’re absolutely over the moon with that, but if anyone wants to keep donating – anything to make Pixels Cafe the best it possibly can.

“All things going according to plan we are hoping it will be open in the High Street sometime in winter this side of the year.

“There isn’t anywhere for young people to hang out during the weekends and evenings, so with this in mind, we want to create a safe environment for children and families to enjoy after school and at the weekends. We are aiming to make Pixels Cafe the premier venue for social gaming in Irvine and the surrounding area.

“We will be providing game passes for our consoles, pay-to-play arcade machines and plenty of board games that will allow people of all ages to come in and enjoy. Another key element of our idea is to create a space that is enjoyable to be in for parents and children alike.

“We want to make the kind of venue that North Ayrshire seriously needs and we want to make sure that the local community can help us shape it. The more money we raise through Kickstarter, the more entertainment equipment we can provide.
