HOUSING chiefs have unveiled ambitious plans to build hundreds of new homes in Irvine and Kilwinning.

North Ayrshire Council’s Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) aims to deliver more than 1,700 high-quality homes, costing around £170million, over the next five years.

The blueprint, which is expected to be approved at NAC’s Cabinet meeting today (Tuesday, October 2) sets out proposals for 1,732 new and refurbished social houses to be built within the next five years.

Cabinet Member for Place, Councillor Jim Montgomerie, said: “This is probably the most exciting and ambitious house-building programme by any authority in Scotland.
