The Kilwinning community were left disappointed after the town’s noticeboard was vandalised last week.

The town’s community council said they hope to get its front fixed soon after someone used a sharp object to gouge scratches, initials and rude markings into its clear plastic screen.

Kilwinning Community Council obtained a grant for more than £1,000 to purchase the noticeboard – which was put up in the Main Street back in May.

Secretary Nairn McDonald said: “It’s a bit of a gut-wrenching blow. I was up on Saturday and realised there was various stuff gorged into it which is quite disappointing.

“There’s words like MYT – which I’ve got no idea what that means – then there’s the usual and other random scratches. We deliberately bought the toughest Pyrex and somebody obviously had to be quite committed to get it as deep.

“It has been up for quite a while now and I was worried it was going to get vandalised, but then it got passed a couple of months and thought it was safe and then this."
