North Ayrshire’s chief executive will officially retire on Hallowe’en after council bosses hold a special going away party for her this week.

Elma Murray will officially leave the local authority on Wednesday, October 31 with current Executive Director for Place Craig Hatton taking the reins the next day.

And this Friday, council chiefs and invited guests will be attending a special formal event for her in Irvine’s Townhouse, after Ms Murray’s retirement was announced in August.

Chief Executive Elma Murray said: “My time with North Ayrshire Council has been an amazing journey. It’s being a huge privilege to serve with such talented and committed people and dedicated communities.

“I would like to thank all staff, partners and residents for making my time as chief executive so enjoyable and I know you will be in safe hands with Craig.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Elma Murray officially retires from the council on the October 31 2018, with Craig Hatton taking over on November 1 2018. A transition is currently taking place.

“This Friday will see a formal event taking place to mark Elma’s retirement.”
