Irvine's mental health hospital is looking for volunteers to help run its shop.

The Woodland View shop first opened its doors almost three years ago. Since then the shop has increased its opening hours due to its popularity from patients, visitors and staff.

The shop, which sells a range of goods including newspapers, cards, soft drinks, confectionery and gifts, has become an integral part of the hospital.

To meet demand, the shop is now open Monday and Tuesday from 9am to 7pm; Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9am to 5pm; Saturday from 1pm to 4pm and Sunday 12noon to 4pm.

However, with extended opening hours, the shop is in urgent need of more volunteers who are willing to offer a few hours of their time each week.

Carol Nimmo, Volunteer Shop Manager, said: “The shop has proved so popular that we really need more volunteers to help us.

“We are a small friendly team which has volunteers aged from 17 all the way to 83. We just need you to be over 16 years-of-age and be happy to spare a few hours of your time to really make a difference in your local community. Volunteers can choose to dedicate whatever time they can manage. However, each shift will be a minimum of three hours. All volunteers will be fully supported and receive training.

Carol added: “We’re encouraging people of all ages to get involved and give it a go. Our volunteers are very special to us and it’s a great way to meet new friends. ”
