Residents will have the chance to decide which local hero will turn on Kilwinning’s Christmas lights.

Organisers are on the hunt for a local legend to turn on the town’s Christmas lights on Thursday, November 22.

Promoting Kilwinning have drawn up a list of nominated heroes and are inviting residents to take part in a poll to be set up on its Facebook page to decide who switches on the Christmas lights.

Voting will close on Friday, November 2.

The Christmas Lights Switch On event will start at 3.30pm, with entertainment on the main stage, charity and information stalls and children’s rides on the Main Street.

Kilwinning Academy Parent Council will again be there with their very successful Santa’s grotto in the Erskine Hall. Craft stalls will also be in the Erskine Church Hall.

The Fun Fair rides in the Woodwynd Car park start at 3:30pm.

The Switch on procession will start from the Erskine Hall at 6.10pm and the switch on will be on the main stage at approximately 6.30pm.

Organisers say there are still a few entertainment slots left on stage and stall application forms are also still available.

Half of the Woodwynd Car park behind Tesco will be closed f r om 5.30pm on Wednesday evening November 21 so that the fairgrounds attractions can be set up.

Residents are advised to make sure their vehicle is not parked in the car park after 5.30pm.

Volunteers are needed to help steward the event, help with fundraising and planning the event.

Anyone interested in entertaining on stage, having a stall or being a volunteer is advised to contact Carol Smith via casmith2659@gmail.com or call 07986833133.

Meanwhile in Irvine, Love Island ‘celebrity’ Jack Fowler is to attend the return of the town’s Christmas light switch on.

Organisers promise plenty of entertainment for all ages on the main stage and are also on the hunt for volunteers.
