KILWINNING’S ‘wee warrior’ Kieran Crichton has beaten cancer, it was revealed this week.

Just eight months after being diagnosed with FIVE brain tumours the 12-year-old was given the all clear on Monday.

Mum Senga, 48, said: “I can finally say that Kieran is cancer free and in remission.

“We are all over the moon and can’t stop smiling with happiness. I am feeling very emotional and there’s been tears but they’re happy tears.”

Kilwinning Academy pupil Kieran was diagnosed with a rare case of Medulloblastoma in February this year after Senga noticed he was rapidly losing weight and pushed doctors for tests.

Kieran, who also has autism, underwent brain surgery at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children on March 2, to remove the biggest tumour.

That operation which left him with posterior fossa syndrome, which affected his ability to speak and walk.

Following the surgery, doctors warned the family that they would not be able to operate again and Kieran’s life was wholly dependent on chemotherapy and radiotherapy shrinking the tumours.

Yesterday the family got the news they have waited all year for.

Senga added: “Today was the day we finally got the results of Kieran’s MRI.

“After 35 weeks in hospital, a seven hour operation to remove the biggest tumour, four rounds of chemotherapy, six weeks of radiotherapy, septic shock, countless

blood and platelet transfusions, weeks on end in source isolation, antibiotic after antibiotic, constant sickness, medicine after medicine Kieran is finally cancer

free.”

Kieran now has a long road to recovery ahead of him and will need to undergo more after care treatments to help him fully recover.

Senga says her son has inspired everyone.

“He is a true inspiration.

“He still has some things to get done so it’s still a while before we are completely finished and still a long road ahead after treatment for his recovery and building his strength up again, but he has done it.

“My wee warrior has kicked cancer’s butt.”
