THE body of a woman missing for seven days has been found in an Irvine flat.

Caroline McCaffery went missing on Monday, October 29 and police launched a frantic search for her after she failed to attend appointments. 

The 31-year-old was found dead in a property with Parterre last night (Monday, November 5) just before 9pm, exactly a week after she was last seen shopping in the Rivergate Shopping Centre.

A spokesman for Ayrshire Police said: "Around 8.50pm on Monday, November 5, 2018, the body of a woman was found within a house in Parterre, Irvine. Although formal identification has still to take place, the family of missing woman Caroline McCafferty has been informed.

"A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, however meantime police are treating the death as unexplained and police enquiries are continuing at this time.

"A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
