DESPITE the stormy weather there was a good turnout at the opening of the WWI Garden of Remembrance at Elm Park on Saturday.
The garden, created by Three Towns Growers Allotments, is in memory of those who gave their lives in The Great War 1914-1918, and was officially was opened by Provost Ian Clarkson and attended by many local councillors and representatives of the armed services including The Royal British Legion.
The garden is for public use and is in a pretty area of the park providing much needed seating for park users.
Attendees then headed to the Ardrossan Academicals RFC function suite for WWI music and archival images of the war, including life on the Home Front and its links with the early allotment movement, and the Three Towns area 100 years ago.
Everyone got to taste and compare cake recipes popular 100 years ago at a time of wartime food rationing with modern recipes.
Three Towns Growers thanks North Ayrshire Council’s Legacy Fund for help with funding for the garden.
