THOUSANDS of people from Troon and across the west of Scotland converged on Barassie Beach for a highly popular annual fireworks display, writes Stewart McConnell.

Troon Round Table made the decision to put their display back 24 hours from Saturday to Sunday owing to a horrendous weather forecast.

And it proved more than worth the wait for revellers, with wall-to-wall sunshine all day followed by a dry evening.

Crowds were treated to a spectacular half hour display featuring fireworks with gold, purple, yellow, green and red among many other colours.

Troon man Gary Elder took his wife Shona and sons Owen and Lewis along to the event.

He said: “It was a really enjoyable night and I think the fireworks get better every year.”

Alison Walker from Dreghorn and Tricia Bell from Dundonald took their children along to the event.

“The children liked the trampolines and also the duck.

“We don’t mind giving a donation to keep it going.”
