RESIDENTS are being encouraged to report street lighting faults as soon as possible with the darker nights ahead.

The council has officers who will regularly inspect streets over winter, however, they still need the public’s help to ensure that all its lights are working.

“There are around 24,000 street lights across North Ayrshire, so it is inevitable that a small number will have faults over the course of the winter,” said Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place.

“We are asking the public to keep us informed of any faulty street lights and we’ll make sure we get it sorted as soon as we possibly can.

“No one wants to be left in the dark so the sooner we hear about a faulty light, the quicker our response will be.”

Around half of the street lights in North Ayrshire are LED lights which use less energy and generate less CO2 than traditional street lights – which the council says allows them to monitor these lights remotely.

Residents can report a lighting fault through the council’s website at www.north-ayrshire.gov. uk/lightingfault.
