A CALLOUS carer has been struck off after she subjected OAPs to abuse at Seabank Care Home in Saltcoats.

Jean Burns was employed by the care home, which the Herald revealed last week would be closing following financial issues, and was removed the Scottish Social Services Council Register last week following a hearing.

They heard how she dragged an elderly resident by the ankles in his bed and bent his thumb back and how she told a colleague to take away food from residents before a second colleague had finished feeding them.

When her colleague told her that they had not been fed yet, she said “tough”.

The two incidents occurred in April 2017 and Jean Burns was struck off at a hearing on November 9.

The inquiry report stated: “Social service workers are expected to treat residents in their care with dignity and respect while protecting them from harm. Your behaviour toward residents was abusive.

“It presented a serious risk of physical and emotional harm.

“It would have been degrading and disrespectful toward residents in your care.”
