THE Focus Community Centre is to close its doors, the Herald can reveal.

But North Ayrshire Council say this won’t impact on the services delivered but as the building is ‘surplus to requirements’ its doors will be closing.

Community radio station 3TFM will be moving to the former Cunninghame Housing Association building in Ardrossan’s Glasgow Street.

Aerial tests have been carried out and they are expected to make the move early in 2019.

It is also believed that the majority of the staff have been moved to other North Ayrshire Council premises across North Ayrshire as they look to wind down operations at the centre.

The newly formed Men’s Shed for the Three Towns is currently located within the Focus Centre and they are confident that they will remain within the premises and it is possible that they could take on the premises.

Donald McLarty, Secretary of the Three Towns Men’s Shed, said: “It is a possibility that the Three Towns Men’s Shed could take on the building via a Community Asset Transfer. All charities that are currently based in the centre would be accommodated if this was the case.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson: “We can confirm that the Focus Community Learning Centre is to close but this will have no adverse effect on the services being delivered.

“We will continue to offer the current services at a wide range of locations throughout North Ayrshire, including community centres and libraries.

“As such, it means that the building will be declared surplus to our requirements and we will begin the process of considering options for the site. No decision has yet been taken on these options.”
