Bourtreehill and Broomlands Men’s Shed held its first gathering last week, with around 30 residents now signed up.
The meeting was held in the Towerlands Community Centre on Monday, November 12 to discuss setting up a Men’s Sheds in the Bourtreehill Village shopping area.
Sheds, which have recently also been set up in the Three Towns, Kilbinie and Harbourside, are for men with time on their hands where members can use tools and equipment for their own projects with like-minded individuals.
Irvine East Labour Cllr John Easdale said: “It went brilliantly. There were very good vibes and everyone sounds really keen. There was about 40 people who turned up to the meeting and 30 filled out an application form to join the Men’s Shed, so we’re going to get up and running.
“It’s open to anyone across the area, not just Bourtreehill and Broomlands, anyone from Dreghorn, Springside, Perceton or other areas are welcome. It would be a place to meet, get a cup of tea, chat and do projects and wee odds and ends.”
Shedders will gather again in the Towerlands centre on Monday, November 26 at 7pm to go through a constitution and set up a committee.
