Bourtreehill supermarket has again proved it’s got the spirit of the community after winning another top national award.

Bourtreehill’s Day Today store won Asian Trader’s Spirit of the Community Award at a glittering ceremony in London last week.

It comes after the Irvine shop was crowned the best new store in Scotland at the 2018 Scottish Grocer Awards.

The Spirit of the Community Award rewards a store which is ‘truly at the heart of its community’ and ‘goes beyond the call of duty to help customers and the surrounding neighbourhood’.

Imran Ali said of the latest award win: “It’s great, we’re buzzing about that. It’s all really down to the staff and especially our manager Glenda Reilly.

“She and a couple other staff worked in the old Co-op before it closed. That left a void in the community and its great to be recognised for filling that void.

“When the judges came up from England they mentioned about all the other empty units and said the store was like a big ray of light.

“I thought our luck might have run out with awards, so we must be doing something right.

“It’s good that we’re doing something positive for the area in terms of jobs and providing services.”
