THE body of missing Dreghorn man John Walsh has been found near the River Garnock three weeks after he disappeared.

The 47-year-old went missing on November 14 after speaking to his brother Jason in a "confused and stressed" state.

Police today confirmed they found his body at the water's edge near Bogside Race Course.
Just last week John's brother Jason and wife Juile spoke exclusively to the Times of their fears for John after he vanished.

Jason, 37, told how his older brother was a qualified mental health nurse before he began battling his own mental health and alcohol addiction problems around 10 years ago.

John eventually lost his job and his home and never really put down roots anywhere, but more recently had been doing better since getting his own flat in Dreghorn.

A spokesman for Irvine Police said: "Around 3.40pm on Sunday, December 2, the body of a man was found near to Bogside Racecourse in Irvine.

"The man has now been identified as John Walsh, 47, and his family has been informed.

"A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, however there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

"A full report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
