THE SNP’s deputy leader at Westminster Kirsty Blackman has said that the UK Government is "in a total state of collapse".

Theresa May has decided to postpone the so-called meaningful vote, originally scheduled for tomorrow, on her Brexit deal with the Prime Minister facing a humiliating defeat.

After giving her speech to the Commons and taking a statement from the leader of the opposition Jeremy Corbyn, it was the SNP’s turn to scrutinise May’s latest move.

“The events of the past few hours have highlighted that this is a government in a total state of collapse,” said Blackman.

Echoing Nicola Sturgeon’s words, she added that the “Prime Minister is being forced to pull tomorrow’s vote in a stunning display of pathetic cowardice”.

She went on to say that while vote, had it gone ahead tomorrow, would have shown the will of the House, the Tories instead are focused on saving the Prime Minister’s job.

She has “abdicated responsibility,” added Blackman, questioning why it had taken May so long to delay a vote she knew was “dead in the water long before this morning”.

Blackman concluded by calling for a people’s vote.
