THE identity of a man discovered dead on a beach outside of Ardrossan remains as a mystery - as police appeal for information to help find out who it is.

Around 2.10pm on Tuesday, December 18, police received a report that a man’s body had been discovered on the beach. The death is currently being treated as unexplained and is not believed to be suspicious. A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the circumstances of the death.

Extensive enquiries have been carried out to identify the man, however efforts have so far proved unsuccessful.

The man is described as white, in his late 40s to early 50s, around 5 ft 7inches in height, with a thin build, short dark/greying hair and prominent upper teeth. He was wearing a black hooded jacket, blue jeans, black ribbed woollen jumper with a zip at the top, blue Adidas trainers with yellow stripes.

Chief Inspector Colin Convery said: “Despite a substantial effort by officers to ascertain the identity of the man, we still do not know who he is. We are now seeking the assistance of the public in order to notify the man’s next of kin. We will continue to conduct enquiries and are speaking with colleagues across the country, in addition to searching the cases of outstanding missing people. If anyone has any information which may assist us, please contact us.

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Irvine Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 1913 of 18 December 2018.
