Irvine's Low Green bridge is reopening to the public today.
The structure has been undergoing refurbishment works since early this summer, meaning it had to be closed to the public during the duration of the works.
While it had originally been planned to re-open the footbridge in September, the council say the 'complex nature of the works' has meant it remained closed for a further few months.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “The footbridge dates back to 1884, therefore special care has been taken to ensure replacement components are fabricated properly and fitted safely, in keeping with the historic nature of the bridge.
“We would like to thank members of the public for their patience.”
