A MAN was rescued at the weekend after he fell off a motorbike on Stevenston beach.

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team was called out shortly before 5.30pm following reports of an injured male on the beach after falling off a motocross bike.

The team responded immediately and quickly returned to the Coastguard station having only left a short time earlier following the team's successful Festive Food Bank Open Day.

They were informed of the location of the injured male and headed towards him using the 4x4 vehicle.

The casualty was quickly located with immediate care being provided by the team with RNLI Troon Lifeboat Inshore Lifeboat and All Weather Lifeboat also proceeding towards Stevenston.

With the ambulance Special Operations Response Team (SORT) en route, both lifeboats stood off to provide additional options for extraction with two ILB crew coming ashore to provide additional assistance.

A short time thereafter, the SORT paramedics arrived on scene utilising their six-wheel all terrain vehicle and following an assessment of the casualty, an extraction plan was devised utilising the lifeboat.

Given the distances and terrain involved, a vehicle extraction was deemed unsuitable with all agencies on scene packaging and extracting the casualty to the Inshore Lifeboat. The casualty was then further transferred to the All Weather Lifeboat and taken to Troon Lifeboat station where they were handed over to an awaiting ambulance.
