A North Ayrshire athlete enjoyed great success this week at a national event in Sheffield.
Scott Brindley, who has just turned 17, travelled to take part in the England Athletics Combined Events Championships.
He was competing for the first time at U20 level and he ended day one of the competition in the lead with 2,861 points.
Over the two days Scott achieved four personal bests and a new points total PB. Day two saw Scott end the competition in a new Scottish U20 Heptathlon record of 5192 points, landing the silver medal whilst gaining the qualifying standard for the International Combined Events competition which takes place in Cardiff on January 26 and 27.
Everyone at the club has their fingers crossed that Scott’s performance sees him gain a selection to represent Great Britain in Cardiff. Scott, from Beith, has enjoyed considerable success over the last few years including breaking the British U17 Indoor Heptathlon record last year.
Everyone at NAAC, which is currently in its 10th year of existence promoting athletics in the local area, is delighted to see him excel on the bigger stage.
Club President Blair Pettigrew: “Huge congratulations to him and his hugely supportive family and his coach, Mark Stringer from everyone at NAAC.”
