CONCERNS over changes to bin collections dominated the recent meeting of Saltcoats Community Council (SCC).
Claire Owens, waste awareness officer at North Ayrshire Council, explained the authority’s new three-weekly bin collection But elected members, community councillors and local residents expressed concerns over space issues, missed collections, and the impact on gardens of having four bins.
George Lafferty, vice chair of SCC, said: “If you miss it there’s six weeks before it gets emptied. Doesn’t sound good to me.
“Going back to the old days it was one week if you missed it and now it’s six weeks if you skip your turn and if you skip your second turn, God help us.”
Ms Owens replied that if residents “had a good explanation as to why their bin wasn’t out” or if any were missed accidentally, the team would return to empty them.
