An Irvine-based firm has been listed as one of the top companies in the country, due to its expanding global sales.

Published last weekend, the 10th annual Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 League Table ranks Britain’s mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales.

Achieving a league table place for the first time, Irvine-based Windhoist was ranked 114 among only six Scottish firms listed.

This is after boosting overseas sales to £34.1million, with total sales of £47.4m in 2017, with the firm building more than 6,000 wind turbines in Europe, Morocco and Australia.

A spokesperson said: “Since installing our first onshore wind turbine in the UK in 2005, we have experienced exponential international growth as the world seeks to transition to a low-carbon energy mix.

“With over 300 technicians employed, we operate in 20 countries globally and have an overseas operational footprint in Australia, Morocco and South Africa.

“Diversification into the offshore wind turbine construction and installation market means that new international markets will open up for us across Europe, Taiwan and North America, with global offshore wind deployment set to top 100GW by 2030.”

Windhoist, whose headquarters and training academy are based in Irvine’s Meadowhead Industrial Estate, are one of the world leaders in wind turbine installation, with clients including Siemens, Nordex and Senvion.

They use heavy cranes to erect turbines and skilled technicians to complete electrical work necessary to make them fully operational.

At their training centre in Irvine, they deliver classroom and practical learning to workers of all levels in the wind industry on issues such as working safely at heights.
