An Irvine rapper is up for a best newcomer award ahead of releasing his debut EP.

Irvine MC and producer Lamy has been nominated for Best Newcomer in the Golden Entertainment UK awards to be held later in the year.

The MC will also be releasing his first EP on his PhatBoi Records label, after releasing a mix of top local talent in the Fire Fae Ayrshire EP.

Voting is open now, and MC Lamy, real name Scott Lammie, told the Times he hopes to get enough support to go through.

He said: “I didn’t even know about it, one of my mates had put me forward and the next thing I know I’d got the email.

“The awards are not until September but think the voting goes on for a couple months.”

As previously reported, Lamy recently represented Ayrshire in the Rep Your City series, which involved various MCs freestyle rapping in a circle with mainly improvised lyrics.

He added: “When we did that Rep Your City Cypher, I met those other guys and we did that Fire From Ayrshire mix.

“I’m now working on a new EP project titled Awakened, which is going to be not so much fact-based but more of a conscience EP talking about some real-world issues.”
