AN Irvine man who alarmed his ex-girlfriend when he threatened to “burn everything” is behind bars.

Craig Gibson appeared from custody at Kilmarnock Sheriff Courtlast week having previously pled guilty to five charges.

On January 7, Gibson’s ex phoned and asked him to collect his belongings.

He threatened her, saying he was going to “burn everything”.

The woman took this as a threat that Gibson, of St Bride’s Place, wanted to burn down her house, so she called police.

Police later observed the woman’s phone “ringing constantly” when they attended her Irvine home for a statement – they noted 55 missed calls from Gibson on that day.

Solicitor Colin McLaughlin said: “He has taken some steps to address his issues.”

Sheriff Michael Hanlon said: “There’s a degree of denial in the report which concerns me. There’s a clear pattern here and I need to take into account the safety of the public.”

Gibson was jailed for 10 months and given a Non-Harassment Order for two years.
