POLICE are hunting a knife-wielding robber in a high-vis jacket who snatched a woman’s handbag this morning.
The 58-year-old woman was walking alone along Towerlands Road this morning at around 7.55am when she was approached by a man on a bike.
Police say the man threatened her with a knife before snatching her handbag and making off on the bike.
The suspect is described as white, between 5ft 8 and 5ft10, slim to medium build, wearing white trainers, black joggers, a high visibility jacket and a hood or a hat.
Detective Constable Andrew Dunlop from Saltcoats CID said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Towerlands Road or the Rivergate Shopping Centre yesterday morning and either witnessed the incident, or noticed a man matching the above description on a black mountain bike, to please get in touch.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Saltocats CID via 101, quoting incident number 0501 of Wednesday 20 February 2019. Alternatively you can contact CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.”
